Friction optimization

Friction optimization

Friction optimized sealing solutions made by Freudenberg Process Seals offer a longer service life and increase the operational safety of your plant.

Because of the elasticity of the sealing material, an elastomer adapts to the roughness of the counterface which significantly increases the friction. The softer the elastomer is, and the higher the force is with which it is pressed against the counterface, the more this effect increases. This means that for friction with elastomers, other conditions are applicable than for the classic friction between two solid bodies. Freudenberg Process Seals uses various coating procedures to optimize friction which have an excellent effect on the sealing performance:

  • Reduction in the adhesion of seals between each other in automatic assembly
  • Reduction of friction when installing seals to avoid twisting and thus the risk of leakage.
  • Reduction in friction for dynamic applications for longer service life of seal

Innovative coatings and nanotechnology

Freudenberg Process Seals has know-how on all modern coating processes, such as PTFE coating, to sustainably improve the friction performance of the seal. Apart from that, with RFN® - Reduced Friction by Nanotechnology – a new process has been developed which designs the surfaces to be extremely wear resistance with low friction, without reducing the elastic properties and dimensional stability.
