Butterfly valves are a relatively simple construction, however they require top class sealing technology, as the seal has to take over most of the flap function.
On the one hand, this is to provide absolute tightness for as long as possible, but on the other hand, needs to allow extremely simple, friction-reduced switching processes which is basically counterproductive to the sealing function.
